So I've talked about 'glee' a few times. The person who.. 'peddled' it to YC has claimed credit.. *grin*
Credit where it's due... Thanks Su Yin.. there. now everyone know it's you.. mwahahaha.

hrmm.. last week was a little nuts with the rush to get some things done and then the open house on Saturday.
OTHER than the tropical/torrential downpour.. nothing really went wrong so i suppose we can call it a success? There were a number of no-shows but that's to be expected. There were still too much food left after everyone was done not because the food was bad.. on the contrary, the food was pretty good according to the majority. There will always be haters in any crowd. Can't please everyone. =)
So it was just a little too much I guess. Some ppl probably didn't show due to the rain and various other reasons so.. order less the next time?
And over-antieipated the drinking capacity as well.. lol

So thanks to everyone who managed to make it. Come earlier next time k? =P

Other than that nothing else really happened. Oh played Dota again after more than half a year's hiatus. We were so rusty that we spent an inordinate amount of time searching for what to buy. It didn't help that the merchants were slightly different and the recipes were different as well but we managed to win but it was a thoroughly poor showing. The rustiness showed.
I had dinner at Little Taiwan Street(?) I'm not sure if I got the name right. Food was so-so. This was at Tropicana City Mall.

I caught "The Book of Eli" with Joanna. Kat was right.. I enjoyed it. (spoiler alert) Didn't really see him dying but I did see him completing his task. Mila Kunis wasn't that spectacular but she is cute.. But central to the movie is the power of faith. Now as most of you might know I ain't a religious person but I do place great faith in people. Often to the point of naivete. I don't live by the line "Don't expect anything and anything that comes along/happens is a bonus". Instead I have certain expectations of people. After all, we are friends because of something that we share. I expect you to hold up to your end of the bargain as I expect to do my part. =) hmm.. I appear to have deviated a little. Back to the book.

Power the faith. Faith in the unseen. Making that leap of faith. Pure blind faith. Realising and applying the correct lessons. I think this is something that all religion expects of its followers. That's the only thing that I approve of organised religion. The negative can be seen from all the religious killings, religious genocide that is happening to this very day. Certain people take selectively words from the holy text and subvert it to their own personal gains. What disappoints me is when people allow this to happen. Everyone ought to be a thinking, rational being. Simply because someone tells you to kill someone because they are 'infidels' or 'attacking the religion' as justification doesn't quite cut it for me. You have a brain. Use it.

Okay I apologise.. I deviated again. I'm not here to preach nor am I here to stand on the pulpit and trumpet my beliefs.
Where was i.. mmm.. yes single-minded determination to stay the course and faith. So yup.. I enjoyed the movie. For me it was quite a powerful affirmation of the power of the will of the individual and the things that we can accomplish when we put our mind to it.

What else happened.. hmm.. oh yeah been buying fishes.. The aquarium now has fishes in it. =D
So does the pond actually.

And I dropped my mobile phone again into water. This time it was a little deeper than 5 cm of standing water.. more like 1 feet. Sigh. I have to fix the phone to recover some of the phone numbers that I've lost.

Oh thanks to Ean for organising "Alice in Wonderland 3D"
I did catch a few pretty harsh reviews online but I always did want to make up my mind on my own. And I can't say I truly liked it. I thought Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter was particular boring and .. boring. The 'heroine' Alice wasn't much better. She looked like a ghost .. all pale and white and the delivery seem to be a little stilted.

"Pig! I need a pig. Where's my pig?" The Red Queen was played by Helena Bonham Carter. I think easily the most natural character.
The Cheshire Cat was worth a mention as well. Done particularly well and the voice (Stephen Fry) was good. Anne Hathaway's White Queen was just literally breezing through life and quite a manipulative character as well. Nothing is truly what it seems in Underland..
I guess I would recommend it just to see the spectacle.

I think that's about it as far as updates go.

Have a good week ahead!

Don't let this end before I see you again,
What can I say to convince you to change your mind?"

Chinese New Year 2010

Let's see.. overall 'yee sang' count for this year stood at 9.
I think at the end of it, you just wanna stop and scream when you see another yee sang.. hahaha

"By its very definition, Glee is about opening yourself up to joy"
Oh yea. =) I've gotten the glee bug..
enjoying the sheer joy that they express when they are performing. enjoying the music that's available as well. WAIT! Let me amend that.
I love the songs that they sing.

I've been watching The Big Bang Theory as well thanks to Shen Yi for introducing me to it.. hahaha. It's so funny.

I don't really remember what I did over the CNY.. I mean it's already been 2 weeks. Lol. I remember going for Jay Vern's fullmoon. ermm.. Various dinners all over. Mom's side of the family for dinner. =) Start work lunch with our group staff + dinner with various suppliers and customers.

Oh and I actually walked Shen Yi's dogs that day. It was actually not so bad to walk them..

What else.. Ed's place for poker and then some Rock Band 2.. hahaha fun fun. I'm gonna buy that when Rock Band 3 comes out this month.. whee =) oh then there was a reunion dinner for a school that I didn't attend.. hmm.. =) and a mini gambling session at my house after that. They played a little PS3 before that. One in particular kept skipping really close to the TV cos she was so excitable.. hahaha. I have a video to prove it.. hahahaha

Then the 'pai tin gong' ritual. oh yeah. THAT reminds me. DON'T bother eating at the Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa outlet in Hartamas. Had dinner with Pat there before the ritual.
My litany of complaints.. where do I start?
#1 No rice to serve at 8pm (at least I think it's the rice)
#2 Even after waiting for 40 mins, the rice was lukewarm (did they cook it then or they brought it from somewhere else?)
#3 I've been to the one in Kampung Baru.. that one is way better.
#4 I've not have tougher beef rendang
#5 Fried chicken was so uninspiring, should have just gone next door to the mamak to eat. At least they have food ready to be eaten..

The rice at Village Park @ Damansara Uptown is so much better and fragrant and delicious! I think the overall bill was cheaper than antarabangsa.
The fried chicken at the mamak stall opposite my office is better than both of these places though. =)
ok food criticism done.

Diana's birthday was last week. A few of us got to their place and sang a song.. and etc. =)
Had lunch with YC one of the days at Essence in Sheraton Imperial. Quite a good buffet spread (don't eat the tomyum noodles) and mostly delicious stuff.
Then lunch with Cristine @ Westin for another buffet. We also had claypot chicken rice in Segambut one of the days. I don't get why my colleagues say it's no good. Quite yummy what.

ermm.. we went to Mage Cafe one of the days I think was a Sunday. Nice place. Food's decent but the main draw is the many boardgames available to play. They typically charge 3bucks per hour per person unless you order something about RM5 then it's a flat RM5 for the whole day for the boardgames. We tried this game.. something about Camelot. The rules were myriad and made for tedious reading but after we got the hang of it, I'm happy to say that it's not that difficult a game to play and we will probably play it again. We lost the inaugural game. =(

I can't remember what else so.. hope you had a happy chinese new year =)
and cheers..

oh some bad juju happened during cny
Alvin's granma passed away. A few of us went on i think Friday or was it a Saturday.
and then Foong's dad passed away on Chap Goh Meh.. it's sad la these things. Reminds us of our own mortality.
At least they are in a better place.
Can't say the same for most of us. =)

And MU won the first trophy of this season. But it's just a pre-cursor to the title.. w00t w00t =)
