looking back

in case you haven't figured out by now

I have a nostalgic + sentimental streak probably a country mile long.
I have a tendency of keeping things and the probably holds true for most things.
The wonders/miracle that is the internet had greatly improved communication by the time I went overseas to study for the very first time. I noted with a degree of curiousity to what was in the folder simply labelled "guys" in my yahoo mail. There were other mails too but that's a story for another place and time.

During that time, my group of friends were very very different with what it is today.
Sometimes I feel a sense of disappointment and perhaps a degree of loss as well. Maybe I didn't put in enough to make that friendship last. Maybe they didn't care enough to make it last either. Whatever it is, it's no longer there.

I read with amusement some of the e-mails that we bounced around our little group. The language was certainly colourful. Mentions of visiting each other as by that time, there was one in the US, one in the UK, one in NZ and 3 of us over in Australia. Mini updates so to speak. Dating, or meeting someone interesting or our lives when we got to wherever. The little things, the everyday things. But alas nothing is forever and I guess these friendships fell into that heading as well.

I know that one's getting married real soon. One is getting married next year. One has dropped off the face of the earth. And I believe that there's another getting hitched in another 2 years time. That leaves one more who is also not in the country. That one I don't get any news whatsoever.

Oh well =)

Congrats are in order. All the best guys. =) I seriously doubt that any of you will read this but what the heck. This is more for me than for you.. lol
Hopefully I'll get invited to the one in the US. That will be fun.
baby

eh.. what did I do last week ar?

The topic is my lame attempt at sounding more 'malaysian-ised'
That aside, I do seem to swear a lot these days. Working in my line is certainly not too conducive to minding your p's and q's.
Did I even spell conducive right?
I think the niceties of the english language is gradually slipping away from me.
One day I'll say something like,"What thing? Why your england so 'lan'?

yeap.. one day. but not today.
anyway,
Last week. I think there was futsal. some rough-housing involved there. Haven't been to the cinema in that time. Business was reasonably good. Speaking of which, one of my cousins talked to me about a different aspect of business. One that will need a lot of careful consideration but worth looking into to secure our future so to speak. hmm..

what else happened.. hmm.. Oh yeah.. there was a little get-together at Alvin's place for his bday thingamajiggy. small ice-cream cake to commemorate the occasion. There were a sizable number of people who were there to .. ermm.. grace? the event. "I think my choice of words are a little iffy"

anyway.. had a yumcha session with YC and JL.. JL regaled her tale of the close encounter with the wtf kind. I look like a saint in comparison. ;-)

Saturday was also valentine's day and also my aunt's bday and also shan's bday and also.. jay mee's bday.. But we don't really keep in contact anymore.. o well. I mean the latter 2. not the other. There was a power failure in the segambut area. My aunt celebrated her bday as well in a biggish way. There were some food + and whole roast pig. Apparently my uncle (eldest) had a missing chunk from his finger in an accident. I'm not too clear on how large a chunk as I had already gone back to the office. The food were at another location. =)

For dinner, instead of going out and spending a bomb which I used to.. this year it was Valentine's with a difference.
I cooked.
=)

There's no pictures to be had. I'm actually not particularly proud of the end-product. It could be better I believe.
I made "mildly spicy lime shrimp with aglio olio". I felt that it lacked a little bit of something. WynNi said it was okay. I don't know if that's a damning verdict or a positive one.
Could be a positive one since she's always believed that I could not cook anything beyond instant noodles + an egg despite my protestations to the contrary.
=P

Played DotA on Sunday. It was only with YC in the end. XJ had tummy issues so she bailed. The 2 had other things to do.. I joined a game with other people in a pvp 5v5. my teammates quit at around level 14 when 4 of them got killed in a shot. sore losers them. Then YC and I played 2vcomp (insane). We won albeit with a fair bit of swearing.. heh.
Dinner was with SY and CH and one mom. We ate in a little far away place at a.. 'restaurant' called "something garden"
It's not good. Don't go there. Somewhere in Kota Damansara.

and last but not least, 16th Feb is YEOK CHENG's bday. =) There have been times when I've done my disappearing acts but she's been a good friend through it all.
I'd say year 2000 was the beginning. But as with most ppl, she didn't like me.. (that'd be putting it mildly). If you think I'm annoying/aggravating now, you should have met me then. You'd want to kill me and then kill yourself. I was that 'incredible' *grin* But I grew on her.. like a fungus (her words) yea..*rolls eyes*
She's a good friend and a good person. A little bit of an oyster sometimes. She's the mirror of the pragmatic side of me I think. and also the slightly anal about certain things side too. haha.. =)

So happy birthday to you!! This friday we rock the Karaoke room ya.. or maybe you rock and I'll cheer you on or something. *HuGz*
Slightly old picture. '07. Don't have anything newer. Must remedy this Friday =)

I mentioned that I recently put in that blasted statcounter.
Now I see Singapore, Kuwait, another 3 more places in the US, another one in the UK..  and a few more spread around the Klang Valley area... *scratch scratch*

Christmas and New Year

Now that all the festivities has died down.. I guess I'm now able to do the recap post?

or not. =)

Over the past 15 days,
I've met some friends;
celebrated Christmas at Yeok Cheng's little get-together with her bunch of hard partying salsa friends. Food was potluck style and there was supposed to be a gift exchange to boot. I did neither. Xiao Jin, Sook Yee, Chen Hoe, Mei Yee + bf, Su Yin and quite a few other ppl were there.
then with a bunch of high school friends over at Finnegan's. Mostly at the prompting of the guy who came back from London. Hsiang Yang n Meng Jan, Kelvin Yuen n Siok Wei, Wei Bin n wife, Chin Siang, Horng Kang n Jade, Ban Eu, Jason, I think that's it.
celebrated New Year's at WynNi's sister's place where they had a bit of a barbeque plus went over to Alvin's where just chilled out with them plus WynNi of course.

dinners,
Little Korea at Solaris with JennNee, Ed and wife, Horng Kang and Jade, Heng Wai and Jasper.
firestation (for lack of the correct name) Sook Yee, Chen Hoe, Sook Yee's mom and Floyd. not forgetting WynNi.
me and WynNi headed to Selayang for dinner last night. I've been missing the food there for a while. Szechuan steamed stingray for teh win! Took a little stroll around the pasar malam after that as well.
had dinner with WynNi at BSC's Chilli's restaurant. They've recently refurbished the building and from the outside it looked quite nice but the interior looks somewhat similar. Also bought myself like 11 books or rather got WynNi to buy me 11 books as my bday present. I've taken to selecting my own presents these days.. quite sad really.. ;-) bumped into alvin and diana there

yumcha
Yew Wen and Joanna Tong on New Year's day.
Horng Kang after late night mahjong with Heng Wai on saturday night. Been a while since I stayed up till day break.
Alicia at Starbucks.

played DOTA

also on New Year's day with Floyd, Sook Yee, Chen Hoe. Saw Stefen there as well.

attended a wedding
in Teluk Intan with my parents. Surprising large number of attractive chicks which made it more bearable. Drove the S350 there and went on a little side trip to Ipoh as well for good measure. Picking out a door was the official reason.

played mahjong
twice. First time at Horng Kang's new very nice place in puchong "Lake Edge" which alternated between Edmund, Jade, Horng Kang for one side and plus me and Heng Wai.
Second time was the late night one at Heng Leng's place with Heng Wai and Horng Kang. Just almost like old times where we'd play mahjong till the wee hours of the morning then go for breakfast before headed home. Difference is some of them are already married with kids so they would leave earlier leaving those with less responsibility to continue playing. =) ah.. life

not quite sure what I've missed out. As always my memory is terribly suspect. I still haven't seen KateLynn for a while now. I wonder if she still remembers me.. =)

little known fact.
I used to have a crush on Heng Wai for about a year and a half when I was 14. Lol. I think she was essentially the very first one. Naturally it didn't get anywhere. hahaha
Lots of ppl getting married this year. hectic especially in September. Sherly my useless cousin is also getting married in March which could quite possibly be the only time I'll see her this year knowing her.

Resolutions
none. I never keep them so what's the point

In the past 10 days.....

My dad had some visitors, actually more like former classmate + family (attachment)
so the classmate (he) went for old boys' reunion and I played host to the family + attachment (read son's gf)

It was last friday. 24th Oct
Massive jam all over KL and PJ. super bad timing
and to top that, my dad's car went to the crapper. It wouldn't start. and it was parked in a double parking position.. Luckily it could be moved forwards and backwards. But the steering wheel was locked so.. it had to stay at that position without a chance of parking it like a normal car.
meh..

I rushed back to change and everything, rushed back to the office to try with the spare keys and then when that failed, picked my sister along for dinner and then WynNi as well.
picked all 3 up and all that I could come up with was Madam Kwan's. Nothing fantastic just decent food. It was a little late and traffic was still shit all around kl/pj area. So had to settle for that.

The next day, I took them to Greenview. Aunty Ann was gonna go for the wedding dinner with her husband but she changed her mind because she wanted Chilli Crab. The crab did not disappoint. Everyone was very very sated after that. We had crab, honey bite sized squid, sang har mee (big-headed prawn noodle), lala (mini clams) and a vege i think.
Then we went for a bit of durian for dessert.
Awesomeness.. lol
I sent them home and me and WynNi hopped over to Sook Yee's house for a bit of Wii fun.

On Sunday, I took them to Bak Kut Teh for lunch. They overate as they did in the past few meals. Lol. Sent everyone to their separate ways. Wyn Ni went shopping with her guest from SingaporeSo I took the guests to Gardens and I had my haircut. After the haircut, I went home and rested. For dinner, I had to drive them to Sg. Long for dinner at my dad's business partner's house. Dinner was certainly good.

Sent them home after that and then went home and got ready for a night out.
Zouk was the venue, more specifically Velvet. It was sorta to celebrate Sook Yee's bday. So there were quite a lot of happy faces that night..
Mum's the word when happiness unspecified is concerned.
;)

Monday morning.
It was a public holiday. Deepavali.
I had organised a Karaoke thing for Sook Yee at Red Box. WynNi was gonna meet some ppl along with her friend from Singapore so she didn't come.
The partying the night before hadn't been too kind one some of the more enthusiastic revellers so they looked very much worse for wear.
=) There were gonna be more but they fell one by one like flies. ahh.. flies..
oops sorry... distracted a little 0_o

so karaoke lasted till 3pm. Not sure what happened after that. I think we had coffee and we went our separate ways. Not sure what I did after that.. hmm.. I seem to be having blanks again.
oh well. =)

ladida..

I treated my some of my cousins to dinner the other day.. though I didn't tell them why.. it was more a thanks for everything sort of gesture but they interpreted it as bday person buying dinner.. Go figure.. =)

I had a Bosch event that I was supposed to attend but I was overly tired and actually just slept the night away. On a Friday night no less.
A failed attempt at my basketball comeback because my shoe refused to cooperate (it cracked up.. literally)
Saturday I played futsal at OUG with a different bunch. I could barely move after that.. 2 hours!! omigod
had dinner with WynNi then called it a night.

Sunday was the halloween party plus my 'surprise' bday party.. =)
well it was planned that way but things don't always go according to plan. Lol
In the morning, I had brunch with Tammie at Delicious in 1u. I haven't seen her in like .. nearly 2 years. Last time being her bday in 2006 i believe.
This was taken in SevenAteNine 2 years ago..

During brunch, I caught sight of Andrew, Bee Shin's hubby. Crane as I might, I could not spot BS so I called out to Andrew. He immediately pointed to the back. They had come for lunch with their baby son, Cody. I went over to say hi and later when they left. Cody who was previously sleeping was awake and looking almightly grumpy. lol.

After brunch and goodbyes, I went to buy stuff for the party. Then took Wyn Ni to lunch and from then it was a little bit of a whirlwind getting everything ready. Running around getting the food, making sure I didn't forget to bring anything important.. etc.. and wig/costume sort of thing
By 7, I had not yet changed and sweating a little.
My 'almost famous' char siew made is 2nd appearance last night. It was well-received. Only complaint was that it was too fat but.. without fat, the thing just won't be as tasty. Trust me.

Floyd and Meng Jan were the first to arrive. One was Constantine, the other was a witch.. can you guess who was what? =)
Next up were the party of non-dressed up 3. Jo-Lyn, Joa Quim and Ken. By then, I wasn't particularly inspired anymore to wear my getup. Then came the next 2 who really put their heart and effort into their costumes. One was a fierce, ebil with and the other a particular Potter. The ebil witch wasn't happy upon seeing us with our non made upselves. Nearly turned us into toads she did.
I'll put the pictures up when I get them transferred.
Then OJA showed up.. and she had a pumpkin basket along with a pair of multi-coloured wings.
Joanna was the nearly last to arrive.
She came in a full she-devil getup. Horns, pitchfork, the works.
She started to jab at me with the pitchfork when she saw me dressed so casually.. ;)

sigh..

So the bday cake (tiramisu made by Jo-Lyn) was brought out after much delay.

We were waiting on the tardy pair of Albert and Pat. In the end we just started without them. Obligatory short speech made giving thanks to friends. Hsiang Yang was on the line with Meng Jan so I got a be-earlied wish from him too. Serina sent a video message complete with her wearing a bright red wig.
It was a different sort of birthday this year. Thanks to WynNi for making it all possible.
Thanks darling.

and thanks to those to managed to make it despite the many reasons.. =)
minus OJA who left in a hurry
suave

of friends

Maybe I'm guilty of not doing what I say I'd do.
You may or may not have heard of my oft repeated mantra or.. rules to live by.
3 times and you're out..
It's usually way more than 3 times because I don't like to give up.

=)
But I have to concede..
people do part ways and more often than not, it's because ppl just simply grow and when they don't grow together, they'll grow apart.
sad but true.

Maybe I sort of didn't really want to believe that, that we can still find a common ground and be friends again like we used to be.
But after reading this.. I guess I have to come to terms with that fact that I will lose friends as I've already lost but steadfastly refuse to accept.

A friend of mine is leaving to work in Singapore soon.
We were close for a while maybe about 2 years ago. After she started dating this guy and started working, I didn't hear from her anymore.
I try, I do what I'm good at.. giving people the guilty feeling but it doesn't feel sincere anymore after that.
;)

so I guess for most.. I should stop trying to tend to that tree that we used to hold dear..

take care friend.

I guess I don't type as well as I used to.
Gone are my IRC days and multiple window chats.
:sigh:

Anyhow,
of late, I've been ending up as a driver for my dad.
Just the last last week, I was driving for effectively 5+ hours on Thursday?.. @#$@#%
Then Sunday (30th) for Qing Ming, it was 4 hours.
then last week, 4 hours on Friday (4th)
Saturday(5th), went back to Teluk Intan for 2nd round of Qing Ming.. lucky didn't have to drive much. But seriously lacking sleep and all that.

Saturday the 5th turned out to be a rather hectic day in the end.
I had to give Cody (Bee Shin's son)'s full moon a miss cos I just came back from Teluk Intan and was stuck in the office.
Then at night, went to celebrate Ean Mun's bday at Graucho Grill over at Chulan Square.
Then Jacky called and said he was back and naturally I jumped at the chance to catch up with my good buddy.
Alvin gave me directions to head to PGRM and I actually got lost and ended up in Pandan Indah which was actually near Steven's Corner which was the place Jacky suggested we meet up.
And I managed to get lost somemore and ended up right in front of the space plus rockstar parking.
Lol.
and the say fortune favours the brave and the foolish. I think I should add clueless to that. =P
Anyhow, it was great to catch up with him again.

And then Sunday besides working, Wyn Ni and I caught Actorlympics after dinner at Alexis.
I mentioned at the last one that it wasn't too good. And I think the crowds this time reflected that.
BUT, the show was pretty funny this time round.
Anchored by Patrick Teoh as the emcee, the Actorlympics featured a pretty solid cast.
Harith Iskandar, Douglas Lim, Rashid Salleh, Afdlin Shauki who was strangely a little subdued, Ida Nerina, Reza, Catherine? I seem to be missing a name..
oh yeah Gavin Yap.. he's weird.
He should stick to doing emo stuff. Falsettos, obsession with gay sex.. etc..
whatever floats his boat I guess.

There were some minor celebrities in attendance. I don't know their names but I've seen them around. Pictures, ads, tv, etc..
YC was also there along with Wei Si and Su Yin.
Oh I saw Chin Joo there too but I don't think he recognised me and I didn't exactly feeling like saying hi.. yes I'm anti-soc like that.

Oh oh!
There was also a Cycle and Carriage showcase on the groundfloor.
6 Mercedes Benz
1 R-Class
1 B-Class
1 E-Class (new with facelift)
1 S-Class
1 C-Class - I totally <3
1 SLK

If I do good and delayed getting a new car, what do you reckon my chances of getting this sweet ride?

;-)

Oh by the way,
Happy birthday to Tien Nee
and
I'm flying to HK, ShenZhen and Taipei.
Will be back in 1 week's time.

Take care peeps. Don't miss me too much.
